Saddle Up
DEVON HORSE SHOW & COUNTRY FAIR, since 1896
The oldest and largest multi-breed competition in the United States, the internationally recognized show embraces the tradition of Philadelphia's Main Line. The sun peeked through the clouds early afternoon on Saturday so we grabbed our 2 youngest last minute and a friend and headed down Lancaster Avenue to the show. The kids enjoyed the rides, the games & the sugar overload.
Scott and I toured the stables and lingered watching the young girls in the practice ring. It brought back sweet memories of me combing the Main Line 30 years ago to buy my baby sister Connie, an equestrian, her first pair of jodhpurs. We loved the DERDAU booth with the custom-made riding boots in beautiful leathers (until we found out they started at $900, eek). Also in the picturesque shanty-town village were Anthropologie, handsome leather goods by PINNELL of Charlottesville, VA , the SARATOGA SADDLERY, with boutiques in both Saratoga Springs, NY and Del Mar, CA and ERMILIOS of Haverford, clothier and maker of the first Masters Jacket.
