kimberly barr interior design & urban loft window treatments

Hi…welcome to my new blog series…Interior Design Collaborations: Philadelphia and the Main Line! I will be featuring the interior designers that I collaborate with at Urban Loft Window Treatments. I meet with my own private clients but a third of my business is collaborating with designers and architects. It has been an incredible three years since founding Urban Loft and the designers that I work with have made it so much more fun!

We have some amazing design talent in Philadelphia and the designers’ styles are all so different and uniquely beautiful. I find myself pivoting in so many wonderful directions with all of them so I wanted to share my journey with you…so here we are…in the order that I have met these wonderful designers…

photo by the amazing Kylene Cleaver of Leave It To Me Photography

I met Kimberly Barr of Kimberly Barr Interior Design at one of Karen Toole-Ebbert’s Lower Merion Community Network’s networking events three years ago. I approached her after seeing some of her work on Facebook and we set up a meeting for the following week. Kimberly came to my office and we chatted it up for four hours! A fast friendship and professional relationship was born…

Kimberly is passionate about her work and her love of mixing modern and vintage elements in her designs speaks to my heart and my design roots twenty years ago at my store Hey Little Diddle. She uses Urban Loft for her clients’ window treatment needs and we learn so much from each other along the way as we source fabrics & hardware and exchange style ideas. I always tease Kimberly that I am old enough to be her mom (I would have been a teen mom, but her mom nonetheless) but our design synergy is so natural that our age difference has no impact on our style similarities.

Kimberly Barr has won many design awards which are well-deserved but one of her best assets is her friendly, positive and approachable personality…here are a couple of our project collabs…all photos by the amazing Kylene Cleaver of Leave It To Me Photography

..this project was for a lovely family in their beautiful Historic home in Havertown..

…another one in a gorgeous Villanova home…

…there are many other collabs but here are some of my faves from her portfolio, collages by me but the work is all hers…and the pics all Kylene Cleaver…

If you need an interior designer you will have plenty to choose from as I feature the awesomeness in this series. I want to publicly thank Kimberly for trusting me with her treasured clients. Please visit Kimberly’s website by clicking here and enjoy the eye candy! xocc

ulrica wihlborg & urban loft wt in L.A.

I am beyond thrilled to announce my design collaboration with the amazing Ulrica Wihlborg, an award-winning journalist, magazine editor and on-air lifestyle and entertainment expert. She is also a talented and accomplished photographer, chosen as one of the top portrait photographers in the U.S. by Rangefinder magazine. During her tenure at Time, Inc.’s People magazine, she was responsible for many cover stories and in 2009 won the prestigious Henry R. Luce Award for Breaking News for breaking more than 30 exclusives in one year at She has also been honored by Reporters Without Borders for her human interest work.

photo via the incredible Carina Olander ©2016, visit her instagram here

The list of her accomplishments is huge, but the most amazing thing about Ulrica is her beautiful energy. She is kind, generous and radiates love, peace & harmony. I am certain of this and I have actually never met Ulrica in person! We ‘met’ each other through this wonderful thing called the internet and connected through Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and her gorgeous online magazine founded in 2013, Sweden With Love, an inspiring place that truly captures Ulrica’s spirit. I adore all things Sweden (she is Swedish) and California (she lived there for 20 years) so it isn’t a shock that our design aesthetics are so perfectly synced. She has always been so generous and supportive of my work too, so to me it was a match made in shelter heaven!

Fast forward to the spring of 2016. After moving to Sweden with her family from L.A. a few years ago, Ulrica and her husband, entrepreneur Craig Forrest of the Santa Monica-based company Branding Studios, bought a beautiful house in the Pacific Palisades section of Los Angeles. She asked me recently to collaborate with her on the decorating of this exciting new project! The assignment? Blending Swedish Country with California Cool. Here is the website she created for the Palisades House Project – check it out!

Last but by no means least, Ulrica’s homes have been featured in two of my favorite shelter mags…Lonny magazine and Architectural Digest…no words really, just more magical eye candy…

E-Design at Urban Loft Window Treaments Philadelphia

Urban Loft Window Treatments is now offering E-Design services. We love meeting our clients personally but it is not always possible if you are not in the Philadelphia area. We have clients contacting us for help so I figured we should make this official. Here are some examples of concept boards that we offer to our clients and we also do floor plans, finish specs and purchasing. We can give you a purchasing list or we can do the purchasing for you after the design is complete.

Fabrics, Wallcoverings, Re-Upholstery…

Room and Window Treatment Design…

Throw Pillows…

Paint Color Consultations…

As you can see, I can offer remotely just about every service I can provide in person. I take pride in my work at Urban Loft WT and the fact that I can deliver beautiful and functional products, quality craftsmanship, professional installation, concierge customer service and excellent value.

In addition to working directly with private clients, I partner with Interior Designers and Architects who want a window treatment specialist to handle that side of their projects. My collaborations thus far have been successful and I welcome the opportunity to work with you. I can work with your fabrics and designs. If you need me to source fabrics for you, I have curated a comprehensive resource library of to-the trade designer options. I support the local economy by hiring Philadelphia’s most talented artisans.

I am always amazed how technology has broadened our reach beyond what was ever possible.

Happy decorating! xocc

Coulisse Philadelphia Previews at Urban Loft Window Treatments

I am beyond happy to introduce Coulisse (rhymes with police) my new, as they say in Europe, ‘range’ of blinds, shades and sliding panel systems straight out of The Netherlands. Yes, I said Holland, you guys! Dutch design is my absolute fave-everything they design is just too cool for words-my heart literally skips a beat when I look at their stuff. Urban Loft WT is the first company in Philadelphia to introduce and carry this fashionable line of window treatments.

Philadelphia is quickly morphing into a major player as far as cities go and all the hype & recognition is well-deserved and long overdue. We have earned it, plain and simple. Superficially, our shopping is world-class and our restaurant culture is in a league all its own. I blinked and Center City Philadelphia is suddenly brimming with beautiful, inventive, exciting real estate and an amazing urban energy that is unique to Philly.

Scratch the surface and you’ll find that the people are what make Philly so great. Demography is alive and well here in every sense. Every neighbourhood has its own identity and tons of people of all ages are moving back to the city center. It is a big city with everything a cosmopolitan city has to offer yet it still feels manageable, walkable and has a homey town charm. The development deals are happening left and right and before I buckle up, I better have the goods to play with the big GIRLS and boys once this whole thing rolls out.

Soooo…I’ve been busy working, networking, sourcing & making my own deals to ensure my collections are finely tuned so Philly’s future windows are properly & beautifully outfitted. Somebodys gotta do it right? So I took it on!!!

I know, I know, I know they are just blinds, but they so matter to our quality of life and the European designers just get it and they get it good and they usually get it right…

and they have come up with a way to manufacture in the U.S. and maintain competitive pricing…my world is round, folks…

modern and rustic paired…residential and commercial

roller shades & lots of natural fibers and linen…

cord weights in hair-on-hide? WHAT? that is just crazy…stylish brackets & accessories

their studio, supervised by Head of Design Catharina Idema, where the magic happens…

This line is steaming hot in Miami and LA right now…watch out for Philly because we have arrived and we are here to stay. My sample books are ordered and I will hug my Fed Ex guy when they are delivered! If you can’t live without these, call me. 610.212.9897 xocc

urban loft window treatments wins Houzz award

Hi all!  Today has been a very exciting day.  After spending this morning with an architect measuring a beautiful custom home in Chestnut Hill, I came back to my studio to find an email from saying that I won a Best of Houzz Award for Service 2015.

modern drapes, shades, blinds in philly + the main line

Hello all!  I have been very very busy lately decorating my new studio URBAN LOFT WINDOW TREATMENTS in Bala Cynwyd.  I took over this charming little space in May and have been working on it since.  I love having an office and creative space to go to daily; it has re-energized me professionally!

It may sound weird, but the energy of having a new studio has opened up the ‘door’ for lots of new business, both direct clients and partnering opportunities with interior designers, architects and engineers who want a window treatment specialist to take care of that side of the project.

Pinterest is where I collect my fave design ideas, please follow me if you don’t already.  It is really fun.

Beautiful rich color…

I hope you guys are well.  I have missed you but duty calls and I am ready…xocc

Drapes Philadelphia

I want to thank all my clients for making my new company Urban Loft Window Treatments a success in such a short time.  My recipe for success is simple:  Deal only with positive people who are kind and respectful and treat everyone, rich or poor, with respect and dignity.  Yes, I am in business these days to make a profit, but my job is so not about the money; it’s about the relationships I have built!  Thank you!

…drapes that I want to design in the near future…a beautiful combination of relaxed roman and drapes…

Have a great Monday! xocc

Have you ever had a consultation with a Hunter Douglas expert?  You will be so happy once you see what the premiere window covering co. has to offer in every category imaginable…Silhouettes are one of my faves because they can transform the harsh sun into soft filtered light.  The beauty of these shades are unmatched in my opinion.

urban loft window treatments philadelphia

Okay dokey…I am thrilled to introduce my latest venture…URBAN LOFT WINDOW TREATMENTS!  I am focusing on drapery design using beautiful fabrics and Hunter Douglas blinds, shades, and shutters, all at value pricing since I am doing this myself and keeping it small (except for the installation, mind you, oh and the sewing, just a little detail).  I actually know the best in the business (a gem) as far as drapery fabrication goes and she’s right here in Philly!

I also want to thank my good friend (and client with amazing taste and style), Dorie Griffith, for designing my new logo, which I love-I told her simple and cool-and she delivered…I love all of the versions, check them out!

I am already sooo busy with new clients and getting my textile libraries all done up!  I just loVe my job (and my hubby for all his support).  Welcome you guys…xocc

Eden Rocks

Hello! Just got back from a wonderful long-overdue vacation with my hubs (no kids) in Miami Beach and Key West.  It was awesome and Miami Beach was more beautiful than ever. We did a lot of non-touristy stuff all over the city and discovered how much we both love the place…

Our stay at the historic Eden Roc Resort & Spa, totally redone and a dream, was unforgettable…the food, all farm-to-table fresh at the renowned 1500° restaurant, was simply succulent…the grounds amazing with 3 infinity pools, 2 hot tubs & the Atlantic Ocean everywhere you turn…the gym gorgeous with an ocean front view…and best of all was the luxurious bed, with the top-notch mattress, crisp white linens and tons of fluffy down pillows, just the way we like it!

My hubs went to the University of Miami and I think he left his heart in South Florida many years ago…and I also have fond memories visiting Miami in the summers on my way to Colombia.  Scott loves the Spanish culture and so do I, of course.  With so much to offer (to-die-for real estate, relaxed lifestyle & gorgeous weather), we are considering a move there after our kids are all off to college…

I’ve been busy working with my private clients and at Restoration and planning my return to school (hopefully in the fall) to study graphic design at the Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia. I already have a degree, but I’ve always been interested in exploring other areas of design, so I’m gonna go for it!  Hope you all are well…see you soon xocc ♥

happy holidays…

Hi everyone!

{flickr, my little brown pen and check out Nichole’s awesome blog here}

I know, I know I’ve been MIA but there are reasons!  Firstly, my son is going off to Penn State, State College, in January and I’ve been getting him outfitted which has been a lot of fun.  He is taking his navy blue plaid duvet I had made for him when he was 3 and moved into a big boy bed.  I used that as the foundation for his dorm room decor (his 1/2 anyway) and it’s rather college-worthy I must say.  Secondly, I started working a few hours a week as an interior designer for Restoration Hardware and I love it!  I still have my private clients also so there you have it…great reasons for my being a stonehouselove slacker lately…i miss you guys and wanted to wish you a very happy, healthy holiday season…thank you so much for reading…xocc ♥
